Scrubswire is a small, remote-first newsroom. We hire reporters, editors, and engineers who care about healthcare, who can write and edit at a wire-service cadence, and who want to work somewhere that takes the floor seriously.
Who we hire
- Reporters with clinical or healthcare-policy experience. We hire experienced beat reporters and people early in their careers; what matters is that you can find stories, source them, and file on a deadline.
- Editors who have run a desk before, who can move copy fast, and who understand the difference between a news lead and a feature lede.
- Engineers who care about news products. We are a Rust shop on the server side. Front-end work is server-rendered HTML with progressive enhancement.
How we work
- Remote-first. Our team works from across the United States. We have no central office.
- Editorial cadence. The morning meeting is at 9:00 a.m. ET. Stories file as they are ready, not on an artificial daily deadline.
- Compensation. We disclose ranges in every job posting. Cash compensation is competitive with other small editorial operations and is supplemented with profit-share for staff after their first year.
- Healthcare. We provide healthcare. We will not pretend that a startup discount on a yoga app is a benefit.

Internships
We run a small, paid summer internship program for journalism students with at least one year of clinical training (RN, MD/DO, PA, NP, paramedic, allied health). Applications open each January and close in March. Watch this page or follow our Twitter for the next call.
