Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Scrubswire collects, how we use it, and what choices you have. Scrubswire is operated by ViralMomentum LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (“Scrubswire,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use Scrubswire.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- Visitors to scrubswire.com.
- People who create a Scrubswire account.
- People who submit articles, tips, or other content to Scrubswire.
- People who subscribe to a Scrubswire newsletter.
It does not cover third-party websites we link to. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, your display name, and a hashed password. We never store passwords in plain text.
- Submitted content. When you submit an article, tip, comment, or letter, we store the content you submit, the time of submission, and the account it came from.
- Communications. When you email us at any of our published addresses (tips, corrections, press, support), we keep the message and our response.
- Newsletter subscriptions. When you subscribe to a Scrubswire newsletter we collect your email address and your subscription preferences.
Information we collect automatically
- Session cookies. When you sign in we set a single, first-party session cookie so the site remembers you between requests. The cookie value is opaque (it does not contain personal data), is
HttpOnly, and is markedSecureon production. See our Cookie Policy. - Server logs. Our servers record standard request metadata: IP address, time, requested URL, response status, and a user-agent string. These logs are kept for up to 30 days for security and operations purposes.
- No third-party analytics. We do not currently use Google Analytics, Meta pixels, or similar third-party trackers.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect health information about you.
- We do not collect precise location.
- We do not run third-party advertising trackers on the site.
- We do not buy lists of email addresses or other personal data.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate and maintain Scrubswire.
- Authenticate users and protect accounts.
- Review and publish (or decline) content submitted to the site.
- Respond to your messages, tips, and corrections.
- Send the newsletters you have subscribed to.
- Detect and prevent abuse.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with advertisers.
We share information only in these limited cases:
- Service providers. Companies that help us run the site (hosting, email delivery, payment processing) receive only the data they need to perform their service. They are contractually bound to use it solely on our behalf.
- Legal compliance. We may disclose information if compelled by a valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Scrubswire, our users, or the public. Where the law permits, we will give the affected user notice before responding.
- Newsroom protection of sources. We will resist disclosure of information that could identify a confidential source, including by challenging subpoenas in court where appropriate.
5. Your choices and rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Update your account information from your account settings (email, display name, password).
- Unsubscribe from any Scrubswire newsletter using the unsubscribe link in the footer of every issue.
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Request deletion of your account.
If you live in a U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and others), you have additional rights including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information, and the right to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; there is therefore nothing to opt out of, but the right is preserved if our practices change.
If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing are: contract (operating the service for account holders), consent (newsletter subscriptions), and legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, journalism).

6. Children’s privacy
Scrubswire is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please email privacy@scrubswire.com and we will delete it.
7. Data retention
- Account data is retained while your account is active and for up to 90 days after deletion (to support account recovery and prevent abuse).
- Submitted content that has been published is retained as part of the public record. Submissions that were declined or never published are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted unless they are part of an ongoing reporting project.
- Server logs are retained for up to 30 days.
- Email correspondence is retained for as long as it has editorial or operational relevance.
8. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including TLS for all web traffic, hashed passwords (Argon2), and access controls on our internal systems. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International transfers
Scrubswire is operated from the United States. If you access the site from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If the changes are material, we will notify account holders by email.
