OSHA on Tuesday finalized a long-pending rule that will require all U.S. hospitals with more than 100 beds to maintain a written safe-patient-handling program, including documented lift equipment, staff training, and an incident-reporting workflow that excludes retaliation.

The rule takes effect 18 months from publication. The American Hospital Association, which had opposed earlier drafts, said it would not challenge the final version in court.
