The American Heart Association on Wednesday formally endorsed non-fasting lipid panels as an acceptable alternative to fasting panels for routine cardiovascular screening — a position long held by the European Society of Cardiology and adopted in Canadian and U.K. primary-care guidelines as early as 2014.
The AHA statement does not mandate a switch but explicitly removes fasting requirements as a barrier to screening.
