Indiana paramedics certified to begin field blood transfusions

The Indiana State Department of Health has authorized a six-county pilot program permitting credentialed paramedics to administer whole-blood transfusions in the field, making Indiana the eleventh U.S. state to formally authorize a prehospital whole-blood program.

The pilot is funded by a state appropriation passed in March and runs for 24 months.
