Northwell to lay off 1,400 administrative staff in $200M cost cut

The system says clinical roles are not affected; the union is skeptical.

Northwell Health on Wednesday told staff it would eliminate roughly 1,400 administrative positions across its New York footprint as part of a $200 million annual cost-reduction effort, the system’s largest workforce action since 2009.

Northwell’s chief operating officer, Adam Boll, said in a memo that no clinical roles would be affected. The 1199SEIU local representing Northwell support staff said it has “no faith” in that distinction.
