A Lean redesign collaborative across three Midwest health systems shaved a median nine minutes off operating-room case-to-case turnover by simplifying instrument trays and standardizing the close-out checklist, according to data published in Annals of Surgery.

The collaborative, anchored at Northwestern Medicine, included Cleveland Clinic and Henry Ford and ran for 11 months.
