When Beaufort Memorial Hospital cut overnight in-house pharmacist coverage in 2023 in favor of a remote-pharmacy contract, the savings were real and the patient-safety metrics, according to the hospital’s CFO, were “not visibly different.”

The hospital reversed the decision in March. The reasons it gave Scrubswire are quieter than a single bad outcome: a buildup of small frictions that the leadership team eventually decided was not worth the line-item savings.
